In a nutshell, The Tropf (tropf is Austrian for drip) Blumat has become the ideal watering method for growing in greenhouses, for indoor gardening, on decks and in planter boxes, as well as for certain kinds of outdoor plants. It's the evolution of drip irrigation.
Description Our medium kits are designed to water areas up to 3.5 square meters, or 12 potted plants. This kit is nearly identical to our deluxe medium kit, however, it comes with a 5-gallon gravity tank with thru-hulls already installed and includes the water level indicator. i.e. This kit includes everything you need to create your very own electricity-free, gravity-fed system. Blumat systems can adjust to any plant type or desired moisture level. This specific kit comes with 5" carrots, which are better for smaller potted plants (10 gallons at most). If you have large plants (10+ gallon pots), we recommend using 9" carrots, or Maxis, to get water deep into the soil. Increase your yields and decrease grow times. Our fully-automatic, self-watering systems save time, water, and nutrients - and still ensure healthier, more potent, and faster-growing crops. Perfect for landscapers and home gardeners. It is easily installed with a pair of scissors and connects directly to your reservoir. This kit includes twelve, 5” carrots and all the parts required for a gravity-fed system. Reservoirs should be at least 3' above ground-level. An optional Pressure Reducer attached to garden hose or faucet can provide enough water for up to 500 Blumat Carrots (See 'Related Products'). The Tropf Blumat system is great for watering balcony boxes, planters, hanging baskets, and row crops. See 'Blumat Accessories' to expand our systems to your specific needs. How it works The Tropf Blumat self-watering system functions automatically. As the soil dries, a vacuum and hydro-static pressure, coupled with a spring-loaded gating mechanism, pulls water from the main line. When the soil is sufficiently moist, pressures equalize, and the Tropf Blumat automatically stops taking in water. Each Blumat Outdoor Sensor in the Deck and Planter Set covers an area 12 inches in diameter. To expand and customize your own system, add additional Supply Hoses, Outdoor Sensors, and Distributor Drippers. PLEASE NOTE: This Tropf Blumat systems do not include a Pressure Reducer. You will need this if you are connecting your system to a threaded spigot, such as your hose/home water supply or the spigot on a rain barrel or reservoir. Blumats Austria says "Please don't use the Tropf-Blumats indoors" because if hooked up to a constant water source and a pet, guest, or user-error somehow causes a run-away, it could damage an indoor floor, drywall, carpet, or furniture. We, and many others, do in fact use these systems inside ourselves, however, we are generally around enough that if a problem did occur, we would be able to notice a problem and fix it in time (not the case if someone is on vacation). Ideal horticulture application - Will work for hydroponic bucket(s) or other gardening uses! Bucket with spigot(s) - Pre-installed, no tools required to get this reservoir working for your plants! Bulkheads are installed with nipples facing inward for shipping only. The bulkheads/spigots should be flipped around so that the nipples face outward for garden, horticultural, and hydroponic applications. This is really like a water barrel spigot kit that has already been configured and assembled for you! 5 Gallon Reservoir with two thru-hulls and lid. The two thru-hull fittings are installed backwards for shipment. When you receive your reservoir simply unscrew and flip the fittings. Grow plants anywhere! Just attach your Blumat 8mm line, fill with water, and almost instantly your plants are taken care of. This includes two installed Blumat adapters and a black lid. They have two connectors to make it easy to set up a "Blumat Loop" system. With these the water goes from 2 directions effectively giving you twice the capacity. It also equalizes the pressure and is a kind of "insurance policy" - if your line gets kinked, something clogs it up, or someone accidentally puts something heavy on it, all the plants will still get water. Description These tees are great for branching a side line of Blumats off in a different direction. They're also really good for the middle of a loop in a hydroponic and/or grow room. If you use one of these and a valve, it makes it easy to let air and sediment out before it can cause problems.

Description End piece for 8mm line-barb for sensor. This lets you end a supply line with a Blumat sensor - just take the tee that comes with the Blumat off and replace with this fitting.

Description Use these to end a Blumat distribution line. The regular distribution drippers have barbs on both sides so you need a way to end them without water dripping out too fast. You can do that with an end cap (IG15509) or with one of these. They are less expensive than the standard drippers and much easier to take on and off than the end caps. The end caps often need pliers to remove but they just pull on and off.

Description Each Tropf Blumat can control 5 of these distribution drippers and saturate a 40" length - either in a row or around a large plant. In a pressure system, by adjusting the black screw, it's possible to do more than 5 but with a gravity system, usually better to stay with 2-3. If your plants and conditions are the same, you can also put one Tropf Blumat in the first pot with one distribution dripper and one or two in each plant after that. One customer reported doing this successfully with 25 distribution drippers running off just one Blumat sensor.
