• 5" Sensor — Best for small pots, shallow containers, capillary mat-style setups, or situations where you specifically want shallower moisture sensing.
• 9" Sensor — Recommended for containers over 6" deep. The 9" sensor depth is adjustable, so it does not need to be buried all the way down. It gives more flexibility for larger containers, deeper root zones while still allowing you to place the ceramic cone at the moisture-sensing depth you want.

• Standard — Ships as-is from Blumat. You dial in the moisture level yourself. Includes 6" of 3mm tubing (5" sensor) or 2 ft (9" sensor).
• Preset — Pre-calibrated at our Colorado warehouse for most soil and potting mix types. Includes a locking adjustment cap, 3mm union, adjustment key, and an additional 2 ft of 3mm tubing.

• None (1–5 gal) — Sensor waters directly at the insertion point. Best for small pots.
• 5" Drip Ring (2–7 gal) — 4 drip points, pre-assembled.
• 3-Dripper Setup (5–20 gal) — 3 drippers with stakes and 3mm tubing.
• 10" Drip Ring (10–20 gal) — 8 drip points, pre-assembled.
• 5-Dripper Setup (10–30 gal) — 5 drippers with stakes and 3mm tubing.
• BluSoak Tape Loop (30–90 gal) — Single loop for even coverage around large containers.

• Gravity Reservoir — our complete 5-Gallon Deluxe Bucket Kit comes pre-drilled and ready to connect, or grab our 8mm Bulkhead Fittings and use any container of your choosing.
• Pressurized Source (hose bib or pump) — if connecting to a hose bib or pump instead of a gravity reservoir, you’ll need a Pressure Reducer to bring the pressure down to the safe Blumat operating range of 7–15 PSI.

The Blumat sensor is a ceramic cone that reads soil moisture. As the soil dries, a vacuum builds inside the cone and pulls water through the drip line. When moisture is restored, the valve closes automatically.

Connect your sensor to any 8mm Blumat supply line running from a gravity reservoir or pressurized source. No programming, no timers, no electricity required.

Which Blumat sensor should I choose?

Choose a 5" sensor for shallow pots or when you want to monitor moisture nearer the surface. Choose a 9" sensor for deeper containers and larger root zones.

Which distribution method fits my pot?

Use a single drip point for small pots, a drip ring or distribution drippers for medium containers, and a BluSoak layout for large living soil pots. The gallon ranges listed with each option provide a practical starting point.

Can this system run from gravity or pressure?

Yes. Blumat irrigation for pots can run from a properly elevated gravity reservoir or a pressurized hose bib or pump fitted with a Blumat-compatible pressure reducer.

What is sold separately?

The main 8mm supply line and water-source components are sold separately.

Gravity BluSoak is intended for gravity-fed systems. The 7.25 PSI and 15 PSI pressure reducers are not compatible; excessive pressure can damage the tape.

The Blumat sensor continuously responds to soil moisture. As the bed dries, the sensor opens and allows water to move through the Gravity BluSoak tape. When the target moisture level is restored, the sensor closes automatically.

Because Gravity BluSoak is porous along its entire length, it distributes water slowly across the bed instead of releasing it from individual emitter points.

• Required operating pressure: 10–15 PSI
• Works with a regulated hose bib, municipal supply, or pump system
• Use a 1-bar (15 PSI) reducer or an adjustable pressure reducer set within the operating range
• Not compatible with gravity-fed systems

• An 8mm supply line running from the water source to the Blumat sensor
• A pressurized water source such as a hose bib or pump
• A compatible pressure reducer set between 10 and 15 PSI

• Lift the irrigation assembly out before amending the bed
• Reinstall it without rebuilding a woven layout
• Keep the tape runs clean, modular, and easy to service
• Maintain consistent pressure distribution through header-fed straight runs

The preset Blumat sensor responds continuously to soil moisture and controls water flow into the tape. As the bed dries, the sensor opens. When the target moisture level is restored, it closes automatically.

High-Pressure BluSoak releases water from closely spaced emitters. At 10–15 PSI, the low flow rate and 6-inch spacing create stable, predictable moisture distribution without relying on a timer.

• Cut the tape directly through an emitter, not between emitters.
• Position the first emitter approximately 6 inches from the fitting.
• Fully tighten all tape fittings; even small leaks can reduce pressure and cause uneven performance.
• Purge the supply line and confirm full finished-system pressure before calibrating or adjusting the sensor.

Water enters the AquaMat and spreads across the capillary surface. Containers with bottom openings sit directly on the mat and absorb water from below, allowing moisture to move upward through the growing media.

With a Blumat control option, the ceramic sensor responds continuously to moisture conditions and opens or closes the water supply automatically. The surface-mounted sensor reads the mat directly; the preset 5" sensor uses a soil-filled pilot container to regulate the mat.

• Preset 5" Blumat Sensor — Sits in a soil-filled pilot container and regulates flow according to root-zone moisture. Best for pots approximately 4" or larger.
• Surface-Mounted Blumat — Uses a bell-shaped ceramic base that sits directly on the mat and controls moisture across the capillary surface. Ideal for cell trays and small containers.
• No Sensor — Choose this option when you plan to water the mat manually or supply your own controls. Irrigation fittings are not included with this selection.

• Grassroots 1-Gallon Bottomless Sleeves — Open-bottom containers that maximize contact with the mat, improve aeration, and simplify transplanting. Includes 10 for 2×4, 20 for 3×3 or 4×4, and 40 for 4×8.
• Non-Woven Nursery Pots — Biodegradable, tear-resistant fabric containers that allow roots to grow through the sides and bottom. Includes 50 with any mat size.
• None — Use your own containers. Choose pots, trays, or bags with drainage openings positioned flush against the mat.

• AquaMat capillary mat sized for your selected growing area
• Blumat irrigation control components when a sensor option is selected
• Grassroots bottomless sleeves or non-woven nursery pots when a container option is selected

Automated AquaMat configurations require an 8mm supply line and a compatible water source:

• 8mm supply line running from the water source to the Blumat control
• Gravity reservoir with an 8mm bulkhead connection, positioned high enough to provide reliable operating pressure
• Pressurized source such as a hose bib or pump, paired with a Blumat-compatible pressure reducer

The water source, main supply line, pump, hose connection, and pressure reducer are sold separately.

• Install the mat on a clean, level surface so water can spread evenly.
• Place containers directly against the mat with no air gap beneath them.
• Use containers with bottom openings that allow the growing media or roots to contact the capillary surface.
• Top-water newly placed containers until moisture contact is established between the growing media and the mat.

What is an AquaMat capillary mat system?

It is a bottom-watering system that spreads water across a capillary mat so compatible containers can absorb moisture from below.

Which Blumat control should I choose?

Choose the preset 5" sensor for soil-filled pots approximately 4" or larger. Choose the surface-mounted Blumat for cell trays, small containers, or when you want the sensor to read the mat directly.

Can I use my own pots?

Yes. Select “None” for the container option and use pots, trays, or fabric bags with openings that sit flush against the mat.

Can AquaMat run from gravity or pressure?

Yes. Automated configurations can run from a properly elevated gravity reservoir or a pressurized source fitted with a compatible pressure reducer.
