For more information regarding Capillary Mats, click here. At first glance, these may seem expensive. If you're using them as intended though - in trays with capillary mats, they're totally worth it. This is a growing system popular in Europe that's only slowly making its way into the USA. These fit on top of a capillary mat with perforated black foil on top of that to prevent algae and other things from growing. The surface blumat turns water on and off that spreads moisture through the felt and soaks up from the bottom. It works great with fabric pots and plastic ones with a flat bottom and extra holes drilled in, but not plastic pots with a big lip - the mat needs to be touching the bottom of the pot. Good for pots up to 2 gallon and larger for plants with deep but not surface roots. In a 5 gallon pot, the moisture will only go up about half way, so with that size it's better to use a regular Blumat sensor. One of these plus distribution drippers will supply enough water for 5 square meters of tray. The electronic version can supply enough for thousands of plants as long as the surface is flat (use a level to make sure). Capillary Mat NOT INCLUDED

The blumat Pressure Reducer allows for easy integration of a municipal (or otherwise pressurized line, such as from a well) water line into a blumat, blusoak, or easysoak watering system. BEWARE IMPOSTERS! Many pressure reducers are not real pressure reducers at all, but are merely flow controllers, and reduce flow rates. However, reduced flow rates DO NOT necessarily correlate to reduced pressures. Easily convert a used plastic bottle to a Blumat supply source. This works really well for hanging plants - both inside and outside. Just attach the plastic bottle to the hanger and put the Blumat in the soil. You can cut the bottom off the plastic bottle (you can use these cut off bottoms to make plant holders that keep wooden shelves from getting rings) and fill them from the top. If you prefer to keep the bottle intact, the water will last longer and you don't have to worry about insects getting in it but it's harder to fill. If you use the auto-stop version of this bottle cap though (IG15525), you can more easily move the bottle to fill and put back without spilling the water all over. This uses the thread type common on most one liter plastic bottles - not the same as 3/4" hose thread.

Because of the clear base, you can quickly see if it's getting dirty and you can clean it out without having to unhook your lines. Includes adapters going to 8 mm Blumat line so to install, just cut the line and push the tubing on to the adapters! If your water isn't clean or you'd like to use thick nutrients in a reservoir, this filter will keep your Blumats safe. The screen has just the right mesh - not too big that could let clogging particles through or too small that would mean unnecessary cleaning. Clear bases make it easier to tell if they need to be cleaned but best only in dark rooms. White bases better to prevent algae build-up.
