Growers set up Blumat systems in many different situations with various kinds and sizes of supply line. These fittings and reducers allow you to customize an automated system in nearly any circumstance. Blumat systems come from Europe so most of the fittings are designed for European tubing measured in millimeters. Since people in the USA don't have good access to these diameters and thread sizes, it can be almost impossible to adapt a Blumats to a conventional drip or gardening system. Until now! We've found and assembled many different fittings to make this process easy. We can also special order these fittings in many different configurations and for many different pipe sizes. Quick Connect Bulk Head Fitting, 8mm
Description High quality, easy to use bulkhead fittings that automatically stop the water when a line is disconnected. Just a quick twist connects or disconnects supply tubing. These are a little expensive but pay for themselves quickly if you need to change lines frequently. Great for flushing by letting you quickly change from a reservoir with nutrients to one with just water. Also very helpful if you use different nutrients at different times. We also have adapters so you can connect these to 3mm or 1/4" line.Use a 5/8" drill bit to install these into any container of your choice.

PLOT TWIST: These blumat fittings can also be used as purge valves. A purge valve is used to remove air, particulate matter, or other debris from a water supply line. This can be accomplished in two different ways. One is simply by concluding an 8mm tubing or line with one of these valves. The valve will remain closed 99% of the time, but should be opened if air/debris is suspected in the tubing. The air and/or debris will flow out of the tubing when the valve is opened. The second way to install a purge valve in a blumat watering system is by cutting in the middle of a "loop" design, installing a 3-way 8mm Tee fitting, and installing one of these valves on the open-end of the tee. Simply open the valve to "purge" or clear your lines.
