An easy and economical way to automate a Blumat and/or BluSoak system. Just attach this to a 24/7 water line and gravity will take care of the rest. For small systems, this is a simple way of controlling your pressure without needing an expensive pressure regulator - just make the reservoir higher for more water, lower for less. The included fittings give you a choice of connecting to your water supply line with either a 1/2" male pipe thread, a 3/4" FHT, or an 8mm Blumat line. If your water source has over 50 psi pressure, add this (or similar) high quality but inexpensive pressure reducer: IG16309.

Description
A simple and elegant way to water your outdoor potted plants and raised garden beds, this kit supplies everything you need except for the water. Just put the 5 gallon bucket near where you want the irrigation, attach the XL Blumat Classic watering stakes, and insert them into the potting mix or soil. The Blumats wick moisture as the plants deplete it, irrigate on the plants schedule instead of an arbitrary timer, and saves precious water. To increase or decrease the moisture content in your containers, just raise or lower the bucket.

How it Works
The Tropf Blumat self-watering system functions automatically, without the need for timers. Each Blumat is both a sensor, a valve and a dripper. As the soil dries, suction pulls open the valve within the Blumat, allowing the flow of water through the 3mm tubing. As the soil reaches the desired moisture content, the suction is released, closing the valve. Each Tropf Blumat waters completely independently. Therefore the plants are watered individually, naturally accounting for changes in the environment.For a gravity-fed system, you'll need a reservoir. Make cross connections in 1/4" line. You can use these to send distribution drippers in different directions rather than in a straight line. You can also use them as a more economical distribution method instead of using the drippers. Just cut equal lenghts of 1/4" tubing and spread them around. This requires more maintenance because roots can grow into the tubing but it does save some dollars. This would be our "Economy" design suggestion. The "Mid-Range" version would use the drippers and the "Deluxe" suggestion would be to use more Blumat carrots. This is more expensive but gives you redundancy rather than having all the eggs in one basket.

The Tropf Blumat self-watering system functions automatically. As the soil dries, a vacuum and hydro-static pressure, coupled with a spring-loaded gating mechanism, pulls water from the main line. When the soil is sufficiently moist, pressures equalize, and the Tropf Blumat automatically stops taking in water.
Each Blumat Outdoor Sensor in the Deck and Planter Set covers an area 12 inches in diameter. To expand and customize your own system, add additional Supply Hoses, Outdoor Sensors, and Distributor Drippers.

Blumats Austria says "Please don't use the Tropf-Blumats indoors" because if hooked up to a constant water source and a pet, guest, or user-error somehow causes a run-away, it could damage an indoor floor, drywall, carpet, or furniture. We, and many others, do in fact use these systems inside ourselves, however, we are generally around enough that if a problem did occur, we would be able to notice a problem and fix it in time (not the case if someone is on vacation). Description
With the small Blumat kit and 12 carrots or with the XL kit and 40 in a pressure system, the 8 mm Blumat tubing works great. But when you start doing something much larger than that, you may want to start using 1/2" or 3/4" drip tube line. These 3 mm transfer barbs make it easy to do that. Just puch a small hole in your main line (see our Universal Hole Punch) and put one of these in between your Blumat 3 mm line and your main supply pipe. And if you really want to make it convenient, add the 3 mm Quick Connect or better still the 3 mm Quick Connect with auto stop.
