    Description

Know what’s happening below the surface.

Measure moisture where the roots grow. Use the Blumat Digital Moisture Meter to see how your soil dries between waterings and check the effect of irrigation changes.

    • Hand watering: track how wet the soil gets and how far it dries between waterings.
    • Automatic irrigation: check whether water is reaching the soil where you need it.
    • Blumat systems: see the effect of adjustments instead of relying on how the surface looks.

    Just need the meter?

Choose Moisture Meter Only above. Every option includes the same meter. The other options add accessories; they do not change how it measures soil moisture.

    What does the reading mean?

The meter measures soil moisture tension in millibars (mbar): how tightly the soil holds its water. Lower readings mean wetter soil. As the soil dries and water becomes harder to extract, the reading rises.

Use readings over time to learn how your potting mix or living soil behaves between waterings. Placement and soil contact matter: a reading describes conditions around the ceramic tip, rather than the entire bed or pot.

    What comes with each option?

    Moisture Meter Only
The meter without the optional accessory bundle.

    Meter + Protective Cap
Adds a cover for the electronic head.

    Meter + Cap + Battery
Adds the protective cap and a spare CR2032 3-volt battery.

Meter + Cap + Battery + Coring Tool
Adds the cap, spare battery, and a tool for making the installation hole.

Do I need a Blumat watering system?

No. Use the meter with hand watering or automatic irrigation. It measures soil moisture tension; it does not turn irrigation on or off.

Placement and getting a useful reading

Prepare and install the meter using the setup video below. Position the ceramic tip at the depth you want to monitor, with good contact between the ceramic and surrounding soil.

Allow the meter to settle after installation before using the reading to make watering decisions. The water inside the meter needs time to respond to the surrounding soil.

Keep depth and placement consistent when comparing readings. Follow changes over time rather than making a large irrigation adjustment from one isolated reading.

    Care, water protection, and resetting
    • Keep the electronic head dry. Do not submerge it or leave it in standing water.
    • If using a protective cap, keep it above the soil. Seating it into the soil can trap humidity around the electronic head.

    Download the meter reset instructions.
