Description This professional moisture meter will show you how dry or wet the soil is at the push of a button. The digital moisture meter can be an ideal tool to help when dialing in your Blumat or other garden irrigation system. Keeping your soil at the ideal moisture level keeps microbes and other microorganism populations happy. *DO NOT GET ELECTRIC/DIGITAL PART OF METER WET. USE PROTECTIVE CAP, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE USING THESE OUTSIDE, HAND-WATERING, OR FREQUENTLY APPLY FOLIAR SPRAYS. How it Works The ceramic extension is soaked in and filled with water, just like a Blumat sensor. When this is inserted into the growing medium, the medium exerts a pressure on the water inside the cone. When the medium is more dry, it pulls harder on the water inside the cone. When the medium is more moist, the force pulling inside the cone is less. These forces of pressure correlate to different readings on the meter. A reading of 0 indicates standard water, while a high reading of 750 or so indicates sawdust completely void of moisture. The digital moisture meter is a tensiometer, but indicates moisture levels using pressure as a correlative. Reset Your Meter! Wait until after watering media to let the moisture evenly disperse and stabilize before trusting readings from the meter.
Aim for 100mbar on average in living soil. Some gardeners report best results at 40mbar–I personally get overwatering symptoms there. Let mbar readings on your meter be a guide to plant health, not a tyranny that rules your mental peace.
The meter cannot be used in extremely airy or chunky media such as chunky perlite, lava rock, etc. When the ceramic is in contact with air, the pressure readings will be extremely high. However, your plant roots may have access to moisture in these media even when the meter is displaying high readings.
Avoid getting the digital display wet. The protective cap is highly encouraged in all circumstances, and is completely necessary for outdoor growers as well as those who supplement with any over-the-top watering.
Do not drop or otherwise rattle the display.

This is the pump we use in our Blumat Pressure systems. The 8005-233-236 ShurFlo Pressure pump is ideal for a Blumat irrigation system due to being rated for continuous use and its built in pressure switch. If you'd like to do your own version of this system, we highly recommend the pump model - we've tested quite a few and this one is the most dependable, quite, and has ideal pressure and flow specs. It's more expensive than other Shurflo models but with both a built in pressure switch and internal bypass, we haven't seen anything like it yet.
This is a new and redesigned fresh water pump created with a unique one-piece diaphragm and internal by-pass, assuring long life and top performance in all systems. Constructed for high flow demand, low noise and no rapid cycling. SHURflo's quality reputation has been built on the reliability and dependability. Blumat systems can adjust to any plant type or desired moisture level. This specific kit comes with 5" carrots, which are better for smaller potted plants (10 gallons at most). If you have large plants (10+ gallon pots), we recommend using 9" carrots, or Maxis, to get water deep into the soil. Automatically water a 4' x 8' raised bed with just a rain barrel or water reservoir (water reservoir not included; see our reservoirs here). Kit includes Blumat carrots for big plants in half the space and small, row crops in the other half - 4 x 4' for things like tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, squash and 4 x 4' for things that grow closer together like carrots, lettuce, radish.

This kit includes eight, 5" carrots and all the parts required for a gravity-fed system. Reservoirs should be at least 3' above ground-level. For our customers' convenience, we also sell 5-gallon reservoirs with thru-hulls already installed.
The Tropf Blumat system is great for watering balcony boxes, planters, hanging baskets, and row crops. It fulfills the needs of the plants on an individual basis, regardless of their location, light levels, or plant type. Our systems save your plants from excessive and improper watering. Tropf Blumat system are ideal for plant groupings that require consistent moisture, such as vegetable gardens, bushes, flower beds, grow bags and greenhouse containers. Not only do your plants receive the right amount of water, slow and consistent dripping ensures that your plants receive warmed water, avoiding shock.

Description
Foot valves go into a reservoir or water tank and keep the input line full of water. They let the water come in but not out. This prevents the need to prime the pump or for the pump to work hard self-priming. Blumats don't like air in the lines and this prevents that. Without it, the water goes back into the reservoir each time the pump turns off and air goes in. If you install the bulkhead fitting on the side of the reservoir though and the pump lower than the water level, you won't need this. 3/4" female pipe thread.

This can be used as a solar water pump and is ideal for wells, making it the an ideal solution for off-grid living, homesteading, gardening, and more.
