The original, authentic, Austrian-engineered Blumat Classics. We started using and offering these in 1982. Best choice for a small number of houseplants.

Blumat Classic Automatic Plant Watering Stakes
Take a vacation and let your plants look after themselves. Blumat Classic Plant Savers ensure a constant supply of water. They automatically supply just the right amount - never too much or not enough. Your plants will love it. They won't experience the drying out that stunts growth or the over-watering that squeezes the air out of the soil and keeps them from "breathing" properly.
As the soil dries, the ceramic cone delivers water gradually into the surrounding earth - thereby creating a vacuum within the cone which draws water from the nearby container of water. Once the soil is moistened the Blumat will cease flowing water. It waters your plants only as needed.
You can even add fertilizer to the water supply. This slow, continual feeding encourages prolific growth.
Blumat Classic will only draw water up 12 inches (30cm). If the surface of the water in your container is lower than this, the flow of water will be restricted and the plants gradually dry out.
Each Blumat has a limit on how fast it can deliver water. Several cones may be necessary for larger plants in order to meet the higher water needs. In this case, a larger reservoir of water must also be available.
Set Up
- Fill a bowl with water. Remove the top of the Blumat Put both the top and ceramic cone into the bowl to soak for at least 15 minutes.
- Holding the cone and cap underwater, knock out the air bubbles in each piece and press the top on tightly.
- Push the ceramic cone completely into the soil. Extra large plants should be provided with two or three cones.
- Put the hose right to the bottom of a full container of water. Add a little liquid fertilizer if necessary.
- The level of water in the container should be level with or below the green cap. Raising or lowering the water container increases or reduces the flow rate.
Maintenance
Once a year, place the hose in hot water. Clean the inside of the ceramic cone with a brush and the outside with sandpaper or a pot scrubber type pad.
Tips
If you intend to be away from home for any length of time, ensure that the water container is large enough. Depending on type, size and season, a plant will require 1/4 to 1 litre (1 qt.) of water weekly.
Delivery of water to the soil in the flower pots is automatic. If you do not refill the water container the Blumat will dry out. To restore the function, the Blumat Jr. must be refilled. (Follow steps 1-5).

6 - VACATION WATERING KITS
For Indoor, Long-vacation Watering

Blumat Classic Vacation Irrigation Watering Kit
No power, timers, or stress—this automatic system keeps your plants watered while you're away or just too busy. Easily expandable and perfect for stress-free, "green-thumb" results.

Without batteries, timers, electricity, or even a conventional water source, Blumat Classics siphon water from a reservoir into the plant containers. They give the plants water slowly through a porous ceramic cone so you won’t worry about squeezing the important air pockets out of the potting mix, under, or over-watering. Just place each cone in the potting soil, and connect to the provided main line attached to the reservoir. You can also add more Classics to the main 8mm line or add another kit and second bulkhead fitting to the same bucket to extend the number of plants.
This specific kit can water up to 10 days minimum, 20 days max.

7 - BLUMAT CLASSIC BACKYARD WATERING KIT
Smart Watering for Outdoor Container Gardening & Beds

Blumat Backyard Starter Kit
Water your plants the natural way—no timers, no power. Save water and time with this pressure-free system that runs on gravity—perfect for rainwater catchments, off-grid gardens, and eco-conscious growers. Simple, efficient, and easy to set up.
We designed this watering kit for backyard gardeners without much time, without a green thumb, and without a lot of extra dollars to spend. Much more simple and easy to install than a typical drip system, it can still provide much more consistent and reliable irrigation. Another unique advantage over normal drip systems is that this one doesn’t require pressure – instead, it siphons. This makes it ideal for rainwater collection systems as well as for watering plants or trees far removed from water lines.
This base kit is adaptable and expandable in many different ways. It includes a bulkhead fitting you can use to attach to almost any water container. You can also order a 5-gallon one from us and also add on a rain collection screen. You can add more of either the small or large Classics, a filter screen, a water level indicator, or more supply line. You could also add a pressure reducer and float valve to make this into an automatically instead of manually filled system.
Almost all drip kits for backyard gardening require timers, water pressure, and pressure reducers. You have to guess how much water the plants need; and, as the season progresses, the plants get bigger and the temperature gets warmer, your guesses mismatch more and more. The plants cycle between drowning and drying out too much.
This kit solves those problems. With a much lower learning curve, it automatically waters your plants without needing electricity, a timer, or even water pressure. Less expensive and easier to install, much less can go wrong. The ollas-inspired cones provide more water when the soil dries, less when it has lots of water.

How Does It Work?
The ceramic cone attached to a thin supply line with a weight on the end goes into a water container and siphons water into the potting soil. You adjust the amount of water supplied by simply raising or lowering the container. No electricity, no pumps, no lugging and spilling water in heavy cans — just passive, plant-driven watering always available.
• If the Blumat is over-watering your plant, you can place the reservoir lower (relative to the Blumat). The reservoir can be as far as 12" below the Blumat while still watering your plant, albeit slowly.
• If the Blumat is under-watering your plant, you can raise the reservoir relative to the Blumat. The higher the reservoir, the faster the flow rate.
